The Muisca are an Indigenous people of the Chibchan linguistic family, native to the Andean highlands of central Colombia. Known as “the people”, they are descendants of sacred plants such as tobacco (wesika hoska), coca (fuhuza), and corn (aba). Historically based in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, they developed one of the most advanced pre-Columbian civilisations in South America, known for agriculture, goldsmithing, and ceremonial trade. Today, they continue to honour sacred sites such as mountains, lagoons, and springs as living beings that sustain the balance of nature. Their spiritual leaders use ancestral plants such as yagé, yopo, coca, and rapé to access wisdom and healing. Though impacted by colonisation, the Muisca never disappeared. They are now organised into Indigenous councils and define themselves as a nation in cultural and territorial reconstruction, preserving their oral traditions, language, and cosmology through the guidance of their elders.
Abuelo Comba Nymy Quene is the spiritual leader and governor of the Muisca Hitcha Waïa community. He follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Luís Alberto Celis, a Muisca priest who safeguarded tradition during times of persecution. Comba began his spiritual path in 1982 and was trained by elders from the Kamëntsá-Inga lineage, as well as the Mamos of the Sierra Nevada. His practice includes ancestral medicines such as yagé (Ayahuasca) and tobacco (Rapé). He is widely recognised as a guardian of Muisca ancestral knowledge and sacred geography.
Rapé, a dried tobacco and tree ash powder, is a sacred medicine used for thousands of years by different indigenous tribes in the Amazon rainforest, such as the Yawanawá and Huni Kuin people. It is known for clearing the mind, grounding and connecting to your energy system and chakras. Rapé medicine invites you into a deep state of meditation, which can liberate many emotions and parts of our unconscious mind.
The circle of word is an ancestral technology. A space in which men and women from all times and cultures have met to dialogue, and look each other in the eyes and listen to each other from the heart. In this, wisdom and knowledge are learned and shared, revitalising the elders’ history and legacy.
Please note that the festival ticket does not give access to the ceremony. The festival organisation will email you instructions for the pre-booking system for this event.
