General FAQ | Avalon

For healthy individuals, Ayahuasca is quite safe when supervised by an experienced shaman. At Avalon, your safety is their primary priority. Effects can include panic, paranoia, vomiting, and diarrhoea. While these side effects can be distressing, they will pass and are part of a process of healing.

A shaman is a guide and one who protects during the ceremonial use of sacred plant medicines. He/she can stay in constant communication with the Plant Spirits and nature, sees energies and influences a person’s aura and group collective energies, directs and steers the ceremony to maximise healing.

Ayahuasca is not forbidden to use in Spain, if it is taken for personal use, religious purposes, or in ceremonies of a private non-profit organisation. In many other countries, the use of Ayahuasca is prohibited; for example, Great Britain, Israel, France, and Russia. This is why it is an excellent choice when looking for ayahuasca retreats in Europe.

Ayahuasca is a divine medicine, a sacrament, but not a drug. It is not addictive, and you’ll never need to increase the dose to repeat a similar experience. However, every experience is different, as it puts your consciousness to work. You won’t feel hangovers.

It is the recommended foods that you should eat prior to a ceremony. Foods that you can eat include fruit & veg, whilst foods you shouldn’t eat include red meat, alcohol and others. When dieting, the presence of Ayahuasca can be felt in your body for a few weeks after the ceremony. Check out the full Ayahuasca diet article.

Ayahuasca is a sacred medicine plant that offers deep inner healing and self-realisation. The drink itself is composed of two plants: Banisteriopsis Caapi and Psychotria Viridis or Chagropanga. They work together to open people to new perspectives of self and life on this planet.
